Grandma Moses
Tues, Dec 5th • 10:30-11:30 am
at Trailside
Anna Mary Robertson Moses (1860-1961) spent most of her life working as a farm wife and mother. At age 78, she began to paint after arthritis limited her ability to embroider and quilt.
Moses was a self-taught artist who used whatever was at hand – house paint, leftover canvas or fireboard – for her first paintings. She painted happy childhood memories of fields and storms, barn dances, and holidays in rural New York and Virginia. Her work gained popularity in the 1950s. She continued to exhibit her work into her 90s and painted until just a few months before her death at age 101.
