Calling all art lovers! Please join us for a program devoted to artists, their styles, and their works. From the Renaissance to Impressionism to modern art, Heidi Lang will be your guide to learning more about the world’s greatest artists and their masterworks. Expect a lively, fun and interactive hour of art appreciation.
Mary Cassatt
Mary was unique among the Impressionists, being both a woman and an American.
Cassatt’s Impressionist paintings are bold, experimental and sometimes unusual. Cassatt pushed the boundaries of color and composition, becoming ever more daring throughout her career.
One of only a handful of women who achieved success during the Impressionist movement, Cassatt brought a new perspective and distinctive style to the scenes of ordinary life that the impressionists favored. She focused solely on female figures, showing them as worthy subjects in their own right.
During her life from 1844 to 1926, Cassatt challenged the expectations of what it meant to be a middle-class woman. She refused to conform to the expectations of what a 19th century woman should be and is considered a revolutionary.
