Aging and Our Pelvic Floor
with Olivia Shelton

This presentation will address some of the taboo topics when it comes to bowel and bladder health as we age. We will briefly discuss pelvic floor anatomy and physiology and then dive into some of the symptoms and disorders most commonly experienced later in life. We will provide tips and techniques to prevent symptoms such as urine/fecal leakage, urgency and frequency in the restroom, pressure, and constipation along with some exercises that can be completed fully clothed. Just because pelvic floor symptoms can become more common as we age, they are not considered normal and there are mechanisms to treat these symptoms.
Olivia Shelton is a pelvic floor physical therapist with MyMichigan Rehabilitation.
Aim to arrive by 11:30 am in Trailside and after your table is called, take your lunch into room 160. The talk will begin as close to noon as possible and end by 1:00. Space is limited in the room, so please call ahead to reserve your spot and register for lunch at 633-3700. Lunches are by donation to those over 60, or $7 for those under 60. Please cancel your reservation if you or anyone in your household is sick.
After each Lunchtime Learners program, we will be offering a tour of Trailside Center. If you’ve never taken a tour, this would be a great opportunity to see all that Senior Services has to offer!
