Understanding Michigan’s Fish Consumption & Algal Bloom Risks

Join experts Harry Castle and Sarah Scheitler as they guide you through two important environmental topics for Michigan residents: safe fish consumption and harmful algal blooms (HABs). In this comprehensive session, you’ll learn how to safely enjoy locally-caught fish with the Michigan Eat Safe Fish program, including consumption guidelines, preparation tips, and key materials to protect your health. You’ll also gain insights into harmful algal blooms – how to recognize them, what causes them, and how they can affect your health and the environment. Whether you’re an angler or someone who enjoys Michigan’s waterways, this session provides valuable information to keep your family and pets safe.

Aim to arrive by 11:30 am in Trailside and after your table is called, take your lunch into room 160. The talk will begin as close to noon as possible and end by 1:00. Space is limited in the room, so please call ahead to reserve your spot and register for lunch at 633-3700. Lunches are by donation to those over 60, or $7 for those under 60. Please cancel your reservation if you or anyone in your household is sick.

Following the March 21st program, we will be offering a tour of Trailside Center. If you’ve never taken a tour, this would be a great opportunity to see what we have to offer!
