Steve Passmore has been chosen as Volunteer of the Month for February. Steve has been volunteering for Team Handyman since November 2019. When asked why he volunteers, Steve said, “I enjoy doing it. It is very helpful to the people we serve. I started volunteering after my wife, Debbie, suggested it.” Kris Recker, Office Manager & Team Handyman Supervisor says, “Steve Passmore is a wonderful asset to our Team Handyman Team. He has used his extensive experience in engineering, woodworking, and general handyman skills to help many older adults that would go without much-needed health and safety repairs. Steve says the assistance we provide isn’t major, however, it is appreciated by clients and helps them stay in their homes. Kris shared a note from a client that Steve recently helped: “Steve, we can never thank you enough for coming to our home and putting in some safe, quality-constructed handrails. My husband has MS, so has a big challenge with balance, making stairs difficult. He is so thankful as am I, that he now can go up and down much more safely! Thanks again!”
Steve and his family moved to Midland in 2006. He is a retired engineer from Dow. Steve and his wife, Debbie, have been married 42 years. They have 2 grown adult daughters that live out of state and 2 grandchildren. Steve serves on the Board of Directors at the Midland Curling Center. When he is not busy volunteering, he enjoys biking, curling and golfing.
Team Handyman volunteers assist Midland County seniors in keeping their homes safe and secure. They put in smoke detectors, change light bulbs, put up grab bars – all tasks that make homes more safe and secure. Kris Recker says, “We are so very fortunate to have a thriving handyman service in Midland County and grateful to the skilled volunteers that make the program possible.” To learn more about these and other services, call Senior Services at (989) 633-3700.
We do need a few more volunteers for Team Handyman in addition to other volunteer opportunities. Call Allison at (989) 633-3741 if you are interested or would like more information.
Thank you, Steve, for your handyman skills and your willingness to share them with the older adults of Midland County. You are much appreciated!
