Details, paper and decisions – how do you sort it all out? How do you start conversations on tough topics like finances, end of life planning or even who gets grandma’s pie plate? There is a way to get organized and “Keep It Together.” Over the course of four events on Wednesdays in March and April, you can get important information to help you sort it all out. These classes are for anyone who is concerned about planning – older adults who want to prepare and plan for their future needs- or those who are caring family members organizing a loved one’s paperwork. Presenters will include: Officer Brennon Warren on making a firearm life plan, Wendy Kanar, JD on the legal aspects of estate planning, Tyler Little from Wilson-Miller Funeral Home discussing considerations for advance funeral planning, and culminating with Kelly Perry for a National Healthcare Decisions Day workshop on completing your Advance Medical Directive. See below for workshop details.
Safeguarding Your Future: The Firearm Life Plan Workshop
Wed, March 26
1:30-3 pm • Trailside
As people age, their physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities can change, affecting their ability to handle firearms safely. This workshop is designed for older adults and their families to assess these challenges and create a personalized Firearm Life Plan. Participants will explore how conditions like arthritis, slowed reflexes, or memory loss can impact safe firearm handling and how to address these concerns before they become issues.
Led by Officer Brennan Warren of the Midland Police Department, this session will cover the Firearm Lifeplan Toolkit, a set of resources that help firearm owners plan for the future. Attendees will learn how to document their firearm inventory, make decisions about their firearms, and ensure their plans are shared with trusted loved ones. The goal is to help firearm owners make responsible decisions and be prepared for life’s uncertainties.
