October 22nd is Make a Difference Day! If you have ever wondered if your actions can make a difference, the answer is yes. And if you have wondered where to start, consider volunteering for Senior Services.
Volunteering is all about becoming the change you wish to see in the world and no task is too small or insignificant. At Senior Services, we offer a multitude of opportunities to serve our community by helping to meet the individual needs of older adults. We take careful consideration into placing volunteers in roles that showcase their immense talents.
As a volunteer, you’ll provide rewarding work in service with a goal-oriented team. This experience benefits your health and well-being as studies indicate that volunteers live longer, have lower rates of depression, and recover faster from physical illness. Our volunteers report feeling needed and valued, getting the opportunity to socialize and meet new people, and developing skills and experience.
Senior Services is currently in great need of volunteer drivers to deliver nutritious meals to our Meals on Wheels clients. While we are so thankful for the many volunteers who have been driving for our organization for years, there are also some who have to stop driving for various reasons. Senior Services currently has a need for drivers that are available between 10 am-1 pm at all of our locations in Midland County at least a few times a month.
If delivering meals is not a fit for you, we are also looking for Friendly Visitors. For as little as 1 to 2 hours per week, you can give back to your community by providing social support and/or shopping assistance to older adults. This is a great opportunity for working people as volunteer times are flexible and made to fit your schedule.
If it becomes difficult for older adults to drive, our Transportation volunteer drivers help get people to the places they need to be. Whether it’s a trip to the doctor’s office or a ride to the grocery store, we provide “arm to lean on” service throughout the entire county of Midland. Transportation volunteers report enjoying the conversations they share with the clients including their stories of the past and invaluable life advice. New drivers are always needed! We encourage you to reach out if this is something that would interest you.

Nothing is more fulfilling than knowing your actions are making lasting changes in your community.
