by Allison Rossi Utter, Volunteer & Community Outreach Manager
This month, we are proud to recognize Jean Heying and Sandi Reim, two remarkable volunteers whose dedication to delivering Meals on Wheels has made a lasting impact on our community. Jean recalls, “I knew about the volunteer opportunities. My mom volunteered and so did my husband as a transportation driver.” Their journey began when Jean started delivering meals in 2013 and not long after, Sandi joined her. The two quickly became a dependable and familiar team. Elizabeth Baldwin, Nutrition System Coordinator says, “Volunteers including Jean and Sandi are the backbone of the Meals on Wheels program helping us accomplish our mission to promote and enrich the quality of life for older adults and those who care for them. Jean and Sandi care deeply for the wellbeing of the people they serve and deliver more than meals. Through years of reliable and steadfast service, they have fostered connections with compassion and wellbeing with an attentive eye. I’m delighted and grateful to have them on our team.”
Before retiring, Jean and Sandi worked side by side as Clinical Laboratory Scientists at the hospital. Originally from the Midwest, Jean from Minnesota and Sandi from Wisconsin, they both moved to Midland for their husbands’ careers. In addition to Meals on Wheels, they are active members of Blessed Sacrament Church. Jean is the proud mother of three children and grandmother to five, and in her free time she enjoys reading, playing Bridge, and jogging. Sandi has two children and two grandchildren, and loves reading and staying active with Zumba.
Together, Jean and Sandi embody the spirit of service—showing that friendship, compassion, and a shared heart for helping others can make a powerful difference. We are grateful for their years of dedication and are honored to celebrate them as our March Volunteers of the Month.
The Meals on Wheels program provides nutritious, well-balanced meals delivered to the older adult’s home by a volunteer. An older adult can find comfort knowing that a delicious meal and a friendly face will come with every visit.
