Each November, we take time to honor the dedication of family caregivers during National Family Caregivers Month. Across the U.S., more than 53 million people provide unpaid care to a loved one, according to the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP. These caregivers often juggle full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and the emotional toll of supporting someone they love, often without adequate resources or support.
The Impact of Caregiving
Caring for an aging parent, a spouse with a chronic condition, or a friend with memory loss can be immensely rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that over 30% of caregivers say their role has worsened their own health. Many experience high levels of stress, fatigue, and even depression.
That’s why Senior Services of Midland County is committed to walking alongside care partners every step of the way.
Support Through Education and Connection
Our Care Partner Services are designed to meet the emotional, physical, and educational needs of family caregivers. We recognize that caregivers face a wide range of challenges, from managing medications and finances to understanding diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
To empower and equip care partners, we offer:
- Care Partner Education Classes like Savvy Caregiver and Powerful Tools for Caregivers, which provide practical evidence-based strategies, emotional support, and confidence in your caregiving journey.
- Support Groups are available for individuals and care partners living alongside loved ones experiencing health changes. Care Partner Support Group meets on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month, from 10–11:45 am at Trailside. These confidential sessions offer a space to share, solve problems, and learn alongside others walking a similar path. Parkinson’s Disease Support Group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month from 3-4:30 pm for those in need of education and peer support. Stroke Support Group meets the 1st Monday of the month from 2-3:30 pm and is open to stroke survivors, those at risk, and care partners. This monthly group offers education, sharing, breakout sessions, and support.
- Respite Care through Seasons Adult Day Health Services, so care partners can take a needed break knowing their loved one is in a safe, engaging environment.
Why It Matters
Family caregivers provide nearly $600 billion worth of unpaid care each year (AARP, 2023), yet most don’t receive the training or support they need. At Senior Services, we believe caregivers deserve more guidance, more support, and more recognition.
If you’re caring for someone aged 60 or older, whether a parent, spouse, or friend, you’re not alone. Let us help make your caregiving journey a little easier.
