On August 4, Midland County voters will be asked to consider the renewal of the Senior Millage—a vital funding source that helps ensure older adults in our community can remain safe, healthy, and independent.
For more than 30 years, this millage has supported services that many individuals and families rely on every day. If approved, the four-year renewal of 0.8869 mill represents no increase from current levels, and is actually lower than what has been levied over the past twelve years.
Supporting a Growing Population
Today, approximately 31% of Midland County’s population is age 60 and older, with that number continuing to grow. In fact, the fastest-growing group is those over age 80—individuals who are more likely to need additional support to remain living safely at home.
What the Millage Supports
Funds from the Senior Millage are used exclusively to provide essential services for older adults and family caregivers, including:
- Meals on Wheels and nutrition programs
- Care Coordination and support services
- Transportation to medical appointments and daily needs
- Adult day services and activity centers
- Home care and safety modifications
- Educational programs and caregiver resources
These programs make a meaningful difference. In 2025 alone:
- Nearly 240,000 meals were prepared and delivered

- Over 65,000 hours of core services were provided
- More than 2,000 individuals visited Activity and Dining Centers
- Nearly 2,000 people received care coordination support
- Hundreds of homes were modified to improve safety
A Smart Investment for the Community
Beyond supporting individuals, the millage also helps reduce long-term public costs. Many of those served are at high risk of needing nursing home care, which can exceed $140,000 per year per person. By helping people remain in their homes, the millage provides a cost-effective alternative that benefits the entire community.
For the average homeowner, the cost is modest: about $66.52 per year for a $150,000 home, or roughly $5.54 per month.
