Home should be a place of comfort, confidence, and independence. For many older adults, however, small safety concerns can turn everyday living into a challenge. That’s where the Senior Safety Team steps in.
The Senior Safety Team is a trusted volunteer program serving Midland County residents, helping make homes safer and more secure so people can continue living where they feel most comfortable — at home. With qualified and dependable volunteers, the team focuses on practical safety improvements that reduce the risk of falls, accidents, and emergencies.
- Installing grab bars, raised toilet seats, shower chairs, and anti-slip surfaces in bathrooms
- Installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors
- Securing handrails, stairs, and other slip hazards
- Completing other simple safety-related repairs that improve day-to-day living
There are some limits to ensure everyone’s safety. The team is unable to perform roof work, painting, lawn or snow removal, plumbing, electrical work, or major home repairs such as flooring replacement or furniture moving.
This service is available to Midland County residents who own their home or have permission from their landlord. Hours of operation vary. Labor and parts are provided at no cost, though donations are always appreciated and help the program reach more neighbors in need.
A few small changes can make a big difference. For peace of mind and a safer place to live, call 989-633-3742 and take the first step toward staying comfortably at home.
If you are newly retired or have some extra time to devote to helping your community stay safe — we’re always looking for volunteers! Reach out to us at 989-633-3741 or SeniorServicesMidland.org/volunteer.
