Summer in Michigan is a time to slow down, soak up the sunshine, and spend time with family and friends. Senior Services of Midland County is encouraging community members with a little extra free time this summer to consider making a meaningful difference by volunteering with Meals on Wheels.
The organization is especially seeking volunteer drivers during the summer months so current volunteers can take time to rest, recharge, and enjoy vacations with their families.
Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver more than just a meal — they provide a friendly face, a safety check, and connection for older adults throughout Midland County who may otherwise feel isolated.
Volunteer routes are available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Routes are flexible, and volunteers receive mileage reimbursement and a free lunch.
Senior Services encourages teachers on summer break, newly retired individuals, community groups, and anyone with a few free hours each week to consider helping neighbors in need.
“Even volunteering once or twice a week can make a tremendous impact,” said Allison Rossi Utter, Volunteer and Community Outreach Manager. “Summer can be challenging as regular volunteers take well-deserved vacations, so we’re looking for caring community members who want to help ensure older adults continue receiving meals and connection.”
