This September, we’re proud to recognize Steve Kin as our Volunteer of the Month! If you’ve met Steve, you’ve likely been greeted with his gentle smile and kind spirit. “Steve is very kind and soft spoken, with a great smile and caring attitude,” shares Trish Brown, Transportation Manager at Senior Services. “He’s always willing to jump in and help, ready for whatever the day brings.”
Steve’s journey with Senior Services began as a Board member in the late 1990s, where he witnessed the construction of the Coleman Center. But it wasn’t until after the passing of his beloved wife in 2017 that Steve felt called to do more. In 2019, he joined our Transportation team, and since then, has generously donated over 1,000 volunteer hours to help older adults across Midland County get where they need to go.
“Being a transportation driver is an excellent way to spend your time,” says Steve. “I really enjoy meeting passengers, hearing their stories, and learning more about the county I’ve always called home. I wanted to do more than just attend meetings.”
Born and raised in Midland, Steve spent his professional career as a lawyer with Dow. He’s the proud father of two sons and grandfather to two grandsons. In addition to volunteering with Senior Services, he lends his time to the Chippewa Nature Center and Little Forks Conservancy. When he’s not giving back, Steve enjoys walking, biking, cross-country skiing, and traveling.
Transportation drivers like Steve provide crucial rides to older adults who may have limited options for getting around. Whether it’s a trip to the doctor’s office or the grocery store, our trained volunteers offer a friendly and reliable “arm to lean on.” Reservations in advance are required, with medical appointments given priority.
Reflecting on his experience, Steve says, “The staff here is amazing. Everything is so well organized, and the people we serve are incredibly grateful. Not many communities have the level of services we do in Midland County. It’s deeply rewarding to be part of that—and I know someday, I might need these services too.”
Thank you, Steve, for your dedication, compassion, and service. We’re incredibly lucky to have you as part of the Senior Services team. Congratulations on being named our September Volunteer of the Month!
