About Volunteering Services

As a vital part of Senior Services’ mission to help older adults remain independent, we maintain a vibrant and essential volunteer team of over 500 area residents. The Volunteer Program provides a truly enhanced personal experience for the services available to older adults living in Midland County.

Our volunteer program provides rewarding work in service with a goal-oriented team. This experience benefits your health and well-being as studies indicate that volunteers live longer, have lower rates of depression, and recover faster from physical illness. Our volunteers report feeling needed and valued, getting the opportunity to socialize and meet new people and develop skills and experience.

How We Utilize Volunteers

Transportation Drivers

Volunteers drive Senior Services’ vehicles to provide transportation within Midland County for seniors who have medical appointments and other needs. Volunteers come to Senior Services’ main building to pick up a provided vehicle and a driving schedule. They drive to the client’s home, help them into the car and take them to their appointment or wherever they need to go. Shifts are about four hours long, either morning or afternoon.

If you’d like more information about becoming a Transportation Driver, call 633-3741 or fill out the Volunteer Contact Form and the Volunteer & Outreach Manager will contact you.

Meals On Wheels Drivers

Volunteers, driving their own vehicles, deliver meals to homebound seniors.  Routes are available in all areas of the county from most of our Senior Center locations.  Many volunteers work as a team on established routes which usually take no more than one to two hours per week.  Lunch is provided and mileage is reimbursed.

If you’d like more information about becoming a Meals on Wheels Driver, call 633-3741 or fill out the Volunteer Contact Form and the Volunteer & Outreach Manager will contact you.

Visitors and Shoppers

Case Managers request volunteer visitors or shoppers for seniors who may be isolated, homebound, or unable to drive.  Visits are tailored to the needs of the senior and the interest and availability of the volunteer. Usually one to two hours per week is anticipated, and mileage is reimbursed.
