In the fall of 2020, Senior Services became aware of a local agency’s need for older adults to assist young adults and school aged children with literacy and the art of letter writing through a Pen Pal connection.
Care Coordinators recruited several clients to become engaged in this role. Letter writing topics have included: life’s biggest challenges, special memories, what we are grateful for, lessons we learned from our most difficult times, our goals and plans, and what we hope to see accomplished or invented.
The results have been positive, in fact, life changing, for many participants. Quotes from clients included:
This activity has provided a tool to enrich literacy, build intergenerational bonds, and ease isolation and loneliness.
