Upon taking command of all Union armies, Ulysses S. Grant began to implement his strategy to win the war – putting relentless pressure upon the Confederate armies left in the field. He would personally accompany the Army of the Potomac as it began its mission to confront and defeat Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia.
Lee had never faced someone like Grant. Grant had never faced someone like Lee. The result was a grueling 40+ days of maneuver and combat known as the Overland Campaign – some of the most brutal and desperate fighting of the entire war. In this program, we will focus on the events of May 1864.
We will look at Grant’s strategy for beating Lee, his command relationship with the Army of the Potomac (especially George G. Meade), and the movements, mistakes, and missed opportunities of both sides that will result in the terrible battles of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse.
Reserve your spot below or by calling 989-633-3700! Online registration is available up until 2 hours prior to the program start time. If you are attempting to register less than 2 hours prior, please call 989-633-3700 for assistance.
