In honor of this annual event, let’s take a look into a day at Seasons.
Seasons Adult Day Health Services is a therapeutic enrichment program held during the day in a group setting. It is for individuals living with a chronic illness, changes in memory or with a dementia such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Our doors open at 7:30 am with bright shining faces! The friendly and warm atmosphere allows for participants to come in at whatever time suits them. Whether you are an early bird or a late riser, we are here to meet your needs!
Morning conversation at the coffee bar is sure to get your wheels turning and allows for time for everyone to get to know each other while you are enjoying a piping hot cup of coffee, tea or cocoa.
Our first morning group program, facilitated by one of our highly trained program aides, focuses on working the brain through conversation, use of memories and supports increased language skills. As the brain changes, these are areas where people with dementia will start to have more challenges. We need to use it so we don’t lose it!
It’s very important to exercise the brain as well as the body! Our second morning program brings chair exercises where participants work on flexibility, range of motion, coordination and strength. It’s vital for the participants to stay as strong and independent as they can.
To round out the morning, participants engage in a musical program featuring familiar songs with various themes and from different decades. Music and singing can improve mood, brings back memories, can strengthen lungs and improve self-esteem.
Mealtime comes at noon and is considered our biggest program of the day. Staying socially active is so important to push back on cognitive changes. Having great conversation and fostering friendships is what the lunch hour is all about! This delicious meal is provided to us by the Trailside kitchen.
Live music and entertainment on special days after lunch brings high energy, big smiles and puts some miles on our dancing shoes. Participants not only benefit from enjoying the music, but they also get some exercise without even realizing they are doing it!
Who doesn’t love a little healthy competition? Our next program brings a physical activity that is not only fun, but allows participants to work on standing balance, mobility and gross motor skills.
Oftentimes, people with cognitive changes have difficulty with language and word finding. Each day, you can find a program dedicated to working on these specific skills through specially planned brain gaming exercises.
Let’s round out the day with some trivia or fun facts! At the last program of the day, we want to focus on lifelong learning which is so important. We are never too old to learn something new!
Throughout the day at Seasons, some participants benefit from assistance with personal care or medical monitoring by our Registered Nurse. We also have salon services for those that are interested with our licensed beautician. Our Activity Coordinator plans interesting and engaging special events and community outings throughout the month to add variety and some excitement.
When someone is interested in Seasons, they will sit down with our Family Support Manager to discuss their questions and to take a tour of the beautiful center. Our goal is to learn more about you so that we can provide a therapeutic and engaging environment for each person. After the tour, you can schedule two complimentary days of attendance. This allows you to pick a day with activities that are appealing where you can participate or simply observe what we have to offer. After the two free days, you can decide if you would like to enroll into our Seasons program. Enrollment simply means that you or your care partner will complete some paperwork and choose a schedule for attendance. Most participants attend on a structured, routine basis, but if you prefer to pick different days each week, we can accommodate that as well.
Trying something new and taking the leap can sometimes be intimidating. Rest assured that, at Seasons, we do our very best to accommodate your needs and desires. If in doubt, give us a call and we can walk you through any steps in the process that you might have questions about!
